Had a really great guy. He asked us a few questions and looked at few documents. Told us some great stories of people he’s helped and we shared ours. Very good experience. About 20 minutes it took.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Adjustment of Status interview for the K1 visa, 2 year greencard was held in Philadelphia at 11am, Feb. 8. We arrived about an hour early, and used the USCIS parking lot next door. We went into the building at about 10:45, and went through security. The guards kept complaining that people didn't know to take off belts/shoes/metal because of security, but it's similar to the US airports.

The interview was up a flight of stairs, and a large waiting room was full of families and people. Officers would call from different doors, but people were spaced out with Covid rules and such. Our name was called pretty on time, Officer Walley interviewed us.

The IO was very laid back, he was joking and talking with us pretty casually, about the Winter Olympics, his family, Twitch and other random things. We probably talked more about life and other things than actual interview questions.

The IO asked for the beneficiary's DOB, name, wedding day. He asked if he's ever lied to obtain a visa, committed crimes against the US, or committed a crime (yes). My husband has a record from 2013 with not paying back student grants from the State of Finland. The IO did not appear to have those documents, but thankfully we had brought a complete copy of the submission, so he made a copy of relevant info and that was that.

He did not look at anything else for the interview, we had brought photos and proof of our marriage. He said that supplying as much for removal of conditions will be super important, as that can lead to a waiver for the in-person interview. He even joked that the service centers don't look at documents very well because they send packets that very, very clearly should have the interview waived.

He gave us the verbal approval of the greencard at the interview, and said the card should arrive in the mail in about 3-6 weeks (covid delays and being behind in processing). It was more nerve wracking navigating Philadelphia road works than the actual interview. 10/5 stars for the FO.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We arrived 15 minutes early for the interview. Our name was called for the interview 5 minutes early. We interviewed with officer Garcia, who was very nice and friendly.

He started off by explaining he didn't have a paper copy of our I-485 and it was all on the computer so bear with him while he tried to find certain things. He asked for the interview letter, both of our passports, and any other IDs we had. He asked my wife (the beneficiary) her name and date of birth, current address, when we got married, when she arrived in the US. He asked to see our marriage certificate. He asked my wife a bunch of the questions from the I-485 (have you sold illegal drugs, engaged in prostitution, planned terrorist activities against the US, lied to obtain a visa, etc.). He asked her if she was currently working. He asked for our "love story" which he allowed me to answer instead of my wife.

He said he doesn't expect us to have too much proof of marriage since its a relatively new marriage and said we had already established its a real relationship during the K-1 visa phase. He asked if we had anything else we wanted to show him. I explained we had an updated I-864 but not much had changed with my work since the last time we filed it. He said he didn't need to see it because my income was high enough. I said I had some proof of relationship stuff (joint lease, joint account, photos, etc.) which he also said he didn't need to see because we had proved our relationship in the K-1 phase. I laughed and said I guess I don't have anything else then.

He told us my wife was approved and told us to expect the green card in a week or two. We had a brief conversation on the way out about football and that was it. The interview last about 15 minutes and a good amount of it was silence while he looked things up on the computer. I stopped in the bathroom on the way out and my wife said the officer came running out because he forgot to have her sign something. She signed and that was it.
